Cardinals walk it off as they defeat Spartans in the first round of the 2025 Clark's Pump-N-Shop Baseball State Tournament 7-6

(Lexington, KY) It's the third game of the 2025 Clark's Pump-N-Shop Baseball State Tournament being held at Kentucky Proud Park on the campus of the University of Kentucky. Our third matchup will feature the champions out of the 11th Region the Sayre Spartans verses the champions out of the 5th Region the Taylor County Cardinals.

Sayre comes in with a 30-6-1 record on the season. Taylor County comes in with a 28-6 record on the season. 

Taylor County gets on the board first in the bottom of the first inning when a walk by Cole allows Kearney to score to make the score 1-0 Taylor County. Then another walk by Young that allows Hayes to score to make the score 2-0 Taylor County.

Then in the bottom of the second inning Lyons singles allowing Vaughn to score on the error to make the score 3-0 Taylor County.

The Spartans gets on the board when Beall was hit by a pitch allowing Herrera to score to make the score 3-1 Taylor County. Then a single by Jenkins allowing Slabaugh and Gibson to score to tie the game up at 3. Then a single by Miniard that allows Beall and O’Daniel to score to make the score 5-3 Sayre.

In the top of the fourth inning Gibson singles to left field allowing Slabaugh to score to make the score 6-3 Sayre.

In the bottom of the fifth inning a double by Young to left field allowing Cole to score to make the score 6-4 Sayre. Then Garrett reaches on an error allowing Young to score to make the score 6-5 Sayre.

In the bottom of the seventh inning Kearney singles to the third baseman allowing Garrett to score to tie the game up at 6. Then Lyons singles to the left field allowing Vaughn to score to make the score 7-6 Taylor County.

Taylor County will improve to 29-6 record on the season. Sayre will end there 2025 season with a 30-7-1 record.

Taylor County will advance to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Baseball State Tournament. There opponent will be the Trinity (Louisville) Shamrocks, game-time is set for Saturday at 10:00 AM.
